Modem file transfer is slow due to speed set too low or other computer in use.
Cause:
The bits per second speed of the modem is set too low or the other computer is being accessed.
Solution:
Try the call later, increase the modem speed, or change the modem settings.
Do one of the following:
1) Disconnect the transfer and try the call at a later time. (If the remote computer is heavily accessed, the transfer time may slow.)
2) Increase the modem transmission speed:
a) Click the 'Start' button to display the 'Start' menu.
b) Select the 'Programs' menu.
c) Select 'Accessories'.
d) Select 'HyperTerminal'. (The 'HyperTerminal' folder appears.)
e) Double-click the connection to be dialed. (The 'Connect' dialog box appears.)
f) Click 'Modify...'. (The '<connection> Properties' dialog box appears, where <connection> is the name of the selected connection.)
g) Click the 'Phone Number' tab.
h) Select the appropriate modem and click 'Configure...'. (The '<modem> Properties' dialog box appears, where <modem> is the name of the selected modem.)
i) Increase the modem speed in the 'Maximum speed' group.
NOTE: Consult the modem manual to determine the maximum bit per second speed of the modem.
NOTE: Refer to the modem hardware documentation for the maximum speed.
j) Click 'OK'.
3) (Optional) Adjust the advanced connection properties:
a) Click the 'Connection' tab.
b) Click 'Advanced...'. (The 'Advanced Connection Settings' dialog box appears.)
c) Select the 'User error control' check box.
NOTE: This option is not available for some older modems.
d) Select the 'Compress data' check box to increase transmission speeds by compressing data.
CAUTION: If data has already been compressed using a third-party utility, checking this option may cause errors in the data.
e) Click 'OK' to close the 'Advanced Connection Settings' dialog box.
4) Click 'OK' to close the selected '<modem> Properties' dialog box (where <modem> is name of the selected modem).
5) Click 'OK' to close the '<connection> Properties' dialog box (where <connection> is the name of the selected connection).
6) Click 'Dial' to make the connection.
